With a hint of Summer

The weekend is upon us, Lovies! In honor of Throwback Thursday, I’ll be sharing an outfit from last summer. I was in Nessebar with my s/o when we decided to follow these random signs, discreetly pointing to an Eko Bar. We weren’t sure what we are getting into and the place turned out to be mind blowing! Someone transformed their backyard into a hand made cave bar!

Our scheduled date night turned into a Wonderland adventure! I’m glad I chose this fabulous dress (I made it myself), for that particular night! I strongly recommend you find the Eko Bar on your next hipster adventure in Old Town Nessebar, Bulgaria!

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for these long summer nights with loud music and cold drinks!
With Love, Silvia Mèlange

Summer dreams in February

Happy Wednesday, Lovies!
It’s been a minute since I shared an outfit with you. To be completely honest, I felt kind of uninspired; when it’s -20°C I don’t care even if my shoes are different colors, as long as they keep me warm!

I miss summer and I’m not the only one! Recently, one of my lovely readers told me she’d love to see me with some baby blue accents, as she is also bored with the endless black, grey and brown parade that seems to be an unofficial uniform here throughout the winter months. Well Maria (@freshcutsoflife), I haven’t found anything suiting yet, so here’s a sea themed look, I wore last weekend, the first day temperatures reached 9°C this year!

Esprit sweater, H&M skinny jeans, Betty Barclay boots

While I was shooting in a small but gorgeous gallery in downtown Sofia (it was closed), I realized how much I miss sharing outfits with you so here’s a few extra shots from the coffee shop I was hanging at 😊

As we are expecting temperatures to steadily increase in the next few weeks, I dare saying I’ll be sharing more looks throughout the month of Love.

A glance of Mainz Weihnachtsmarkt

Yes, I’m one of those people who love Christmas and Christmas markets! When I’m lucky enough to be in Germany, I do my best to visit as many new Weihnachtsmarkts as time allows. This year I went to the one in Mainz and although I was hypnotized for the most part, I managed to take a few shots to share with all of you.

Be sure to try the glükwein- it’s the strongest I’ve ever had!

I love old school German buildings

Don’t forget to check out all the handmade chocolate and cookies in the many booths around!

I hope your mood is boosted just like mine after seeing these shots! Let me know in the comments if you like these picture based posts and what else would you like to see?

Exploring the Rhine river

Happy Sunday, Lovies!

In case you follow me on social media (@SilviaMelange), you know by now I’m exploring Hessen, Germany.

The other day I went up the Rhine river to visit the statue of Loreley and the countless castles along the way. I was hypnotized by the view but I didn’t forget all of you as I sometimes do (guilty!), so I snapped a few pics of my look. I don’t think it’s even worth mentioning how important it is to be dressed warm for outdoor explorations in Germany this time of the year! I was lucky there was no wind so my Zara jacket came, revealing an oversized sweater from Tommy Hilfiger, paired with thermo leggings from H&M and knit Uggs.

Excuse the face bc the hair is fabulous!

Like every self respecting fashion blogger, I sometimes search for things on the ground 😂

Visiting this area was a magical experience I recommend to everyone who happens to be in town. Even when it’s chilly, it’s the perfect place for meditation and soul searching or as I call it- getting lost in nature.

As the end of the year is approaching, we all need some peace and quiet to reflect and plan our next move. What’s your favorite nature spot to chill at? How do you feel about 2016 ? What are you looking forward to in 2017 ? Let me know in the comments below!

Travel style

Greetings, Lovies!

As I mentioned in my last post, I got to travel around for Thanksgiving. Matter of fact, I’m still exploring around but more on that later. Lufthansa chose a hell of a time to strike but were quick to rebook me with the only plane flying out that same day! I found the positive in a negative situation- I got the opportunity to take a few shots of my look while boarding the plane!

I’m wearing a Guess knit from a few years ago, Zara skinny jeans, Ugg knits and a Nine West tote.

I have lots of travel tips and experiences to share with you so stay tuned! If you crave daily updates, follow me on snapchat and Instagram (@SilviaMelange).

Happy travels, Silvia Mèlange

Plovdiv, Bulgaria: The time traveling entry

Ancient and Eternal- the city’s motto fits perfectly. Also known as “the city of the seven hills” due to its location, Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria and in the top five oldest cities in the world.

It’s one of my favorite cities and last time I was here was the day after my 18th birthday; the day I fell in love with the way ancient and modern history blend in like it was meant to look this way even 5000 years ago.

The city consists of two parts: old town and modern day Plovdiv. As you guys should know by now I’m a sucker for history, so I was quick to put on my walking shoes and “get lost” in the most ancient part of the city.

Starting at the East gate which still has the original pavement from over 6000 years ago when the area was part of the Roman Empire. The East gate was the shopping district, housing only the wealthiest families with the road, leading to the amphitheater and the coliseum up the hill.

Crossing the modern day road, I climbed my first hill, a gorgeous blend between the ancient roman road(5000 yo), Turkish Empire castle walls (built in the 15th century) and the 150 year old post slavery houses.

Continuing up, I have to note my favorite feature about post-slavery houses from the beginning of the 20th century. You will notice on the pic below how one part of the house is constructed outward- a traditional Gossip room. What is that you ask?- after about 500 years of slavery, the Bulgarian aristocracy was fast developing. The socialites spent their days drinking tea and coffee in said rooms, keeping track on everything happening below them on the then Main Street of Plovdiv, who was spotted with whom, the works. A whole room designed exclusively for a vintage (or maybe original is the word), Gossip Girl!

We reached our destination- Nebet Tepe.

Believed to be a magical place, not just because of the view. This hill is said to be a sacred ground for ancient Thracian tribes, who enhabited Bulgaria 7000-8000 years ago. It’s believed the goddess Hekate preformed rituals here so the place is loaded with positive energy. Another theory states that’s the whole reason ancient Romans chose it as the main fortress in the area.

Tunnel entrance, dating back to Roman times, believed to be a part of an underground tunnel system, spreading throughout Europe

Just a few blocks up another hill, one can find the magnificent amphitheater, still performing over 5000 years after it was originally built. The entrance is only €5 per person and it’s an absolute must-see!

Our guide was a local ❤️

Another fabulous street down before the majestic Coliseum:

The original Coluseum remodel: just thinking that 5000 years ago, real gladiators walked these roads, sacrifices took place, people walked, preparing to face or possibly meet death itself…

the original Coliseum

Such a small part remains, yet it’s still so easy to feel the excitement as you walk the tunnel passage leading to the battle grounds. Even the bravest warriors must have paused for a second, hearing the crowd’s roars louder and louder.

Once you are up the steps and you look ahead, you get an instant “slap” back into present day times. Welcome to downtown Plovdiv, the shopping district!

There are still quite a few places I didn’t manage to cover in this visit but I’ll definitely be coming back here!

There are cats EVERYWHERE! Adding a little extra to the Roman vibe ❤️

Urban Spring

Happy Monday, Lovies!

I’m extatic to announce that Friday was the last “cold” Spring day! Summer is officially en route and before you know it, all the gorgeous green hues on the trees will turn yellow from the heat. I couldn’t let all that beauty go waste, so today’s outfit pics were shot in my favorite city garden here in Sofia!

I took advantage of the chilly weather to wear my favorite A-symmetrical light knit sweater from Forever21’s newly opened store here in Sofia, paired up with skinny low waist denim from H&M, Sisley thick heel ankle boots and a Nine West bag. Spiced up my look with my favorite name necklace in white gold, a choker from H&M and Swarovski earrings for a trendy finish.

I hope everyone is having a productive week and looking forward to some fresh Summer looks coming your way 💋

Tsari Mali Grad

IMG_8265Last Sunday I went on a little getaway with my significant other. We visited Belchin; a small town in western Bulgaria, about 40 minutes out of Sofia. The village stands since Roman times and back then it was called Tsari Mali Grad. There’s a cabin lift that takes you to the top of St. Vlas hill, revealing a breathtaking panorama of the whole town.

Church entrance and a plan how it used to look like in the 4th century

First we visited a gorgeous little church St. Petka that was built in the 15-th century. It’s a very unique place due to the fact that it’s foundation is the remains from a 4-th century Christian church. Right next to it with three towers still standing, is the Tsari Mali fortress built between 2-nd and 4-th century. You can walk through the grounds and even look down from the towers, daydreaming of how it once was. The main part is turned into a museum full of coins, ceramic dishes and weapons discovered on the grounds, some of which date all the way back to 4-th century. The whole place is surrounded by nature. I strongly recommend taking a stroll on the Eco path next to the fortress. Enjoying the pure air and spending some time around the centuries old forests. It’s an amazing place for picnics, meditation and reconnecting with nature. There’s also a very nice mineral pool and spa complex just a few miles down in town if you are in a mood to spoil yourself. With population of less than 500 people, the locals resemble one huge, happy family. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful (of course we got lost!) and eager to let us sample local organic fruits and vegetables and various kinds of homemade cheese. We had an amazing day and came back refreshed and inspired for the new week, glad we discovered another amazing place somewhere in the world! Don’t forget to ask which road to take on your way back so you can check out the 22 stork nests, homes of about 100 white storks annually. To the Bulgarian people storks are like shooting stars so make a wish if you see one! XO, Silvia Mèlange

Inside the fortress
