With a hint of Summer

The weekend is upon us, Lovies! In honor of Throwback Thursday, I’ll be sharing an outfit from last summer. I was in Nessebar with my s/o when we decided to follow these random signs, discreetly pointing to an Eko Bar. We weren’t sure what we are getting into and the place turned out to be mind blowing! Someone transformed their backyard into a hand made cave bar!

Our scheduled date night turned into a Wonderland adventure! I’m glad I chose this fabulous dress (I made it myself), for that particular night! I strongly recommend you find the Eko Bar on your next hipster adventure in Old Town Nessebar, Bulgaria!

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for these long summer nights with loud music and cold drinks!
With Love, Silvia Mèlange

Less is more

Greetings Lovies!
This past Friday I attended the closing night of Sofia Fashion Week SS17. My schedule is so busy, that’s the only night I managed to grace with my presence. I won’t go into detail about my disappointment in the organization of the event and I’m not sure I’ll be writing a post about the clothes. Today, I’ll just share my look with you:

While I was going through my closet, searching for an outfit, I caught myself craving simplicity and comfort. In the sea of recycled prom dresses and heels one simply can’t walk in, I went for a Tommy Hilfiger dress, a statement piece worth remembering. After some deliberation, I decided to stick to comfort and paired it up with cute kitten heels from Esprit and minimal jewelry- a Pandora bracelet in old silver and my favorite name necklace. Wavy hair and a pop of red on my lips from Mac to finish the look:

Keep it classy, ladies!

Sunday Brunch

🇧🇬 below/ български превод

Astronomical Spring might be on its way but today we had a nasty 4°C weather and even snow in the early evening hours. I had an outfit ready to wear and shoot for you Lovies, but in such conditions on a Sunday it’s practically impossible to get me out of the house. Instead of being a couch potato, I decided to throw a little Sunday brunch with some german food and good friends. We also had a special guest- Cookie, the white spitz!

You have to exhaust her with games if you want a decent shot of her cute self 😻

I also braved the cold and took a few snaps of my casual Sunday look (outfit details below):

I’m kinda proud of myself because my face doesn’t suggest how cold I actually was, even tho the whole shoot didn’t take more than 10 minutes!

🇧🇬

My month in Instagram posts *August*

Happy Sunday, my Lovies!

As some of you know August is my “lazy” month, no work and lots of adventures and explorations! This year I visited the Bulgarian seaside for a first time since 2008. It may not seem like it was that long ago but in a country where tourism is currently developing and is the fastest growing industry 8 years is the equivalent of 80!

Originally, I was going to update you with posts once a week, covering the places I visit. Then the beach happened and I decided I’m going to show you some cool things on my favorite platforms- Instagram and snapchat (@SilviaMelange).

This was the longest vacation I’ve taken since I was 15 and yet, I’m not quite ready to get back on the grind. Can’t Summer just stay forever?!

As you can tell, I have quite a few amazing stories, locations and outfits to share in the month of September. I’ll  catch you up on Nessebar, a magical island and one of the oldest cities in the world! Do some partying in Sunny beach and explore Burgas- the seaside capital of Bulgaria. Keep an eye out as this week, I’m coming back full force❣

How was your summer? Where did you go? Did you get some rest or are you going somewhere in September for a hipster style vacation? Let me know in the comments section below and don’t forget to follow me on social media.

Get ready, September!

Love, Silvia Mèlange

Beach Monday

Few things measure up to the feeling of waking up on a Monday, knowing the toughest decision you have to make today is which beach to go to and where to have dinner! Not trying to brag but yours truly is on a much needed vacation, exploring the Bulgarian seaside. I haven’t visited since 2007 so I have a lot of catching up to do!

One of my favorite things about going to the beach, besides going, is getting dressed for the walk there. I miss the days when I lived a block away from the beach and my wardrobe was consistent of 80% coverups, beach dresses and over 50 pairs of flip flops. I still manage to include coverups and see-through dresses and blouses in my urban wardrobe with the inevitable black top underneath but it’s just not the same.

Today I paired up one of my favorite pieces from Macy’s with shorts from Zara, Guess flip-flops and shades from Oakley.

I’m not going to reveal exact details of my location. I’ll just say it’s a beach in Old Town Nessebar only locals know about ;] Empty beach and clean water- what more can you want?!

Plovdiv, Bulgaria: The time traveling entry

Ancient and Eternal- the city’s motto fits perfectly. Also known as “the city of the seven hills” due to its location, Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria and in the top five oldest cities in the world.

It’s one of my favorite cities and last time I was here was the day after my 18th birthday; the day I fell in love with the way ancient and modern history blend in like it was meant to look this way even 5000 years ago.

The city consists of two parts: old town and modern day Plovdiv. As you guys should know by now I’m a sucker for history, so I was quick to put on my walking shoes and “get lost” in the most ancient part of the city.

Starting at the East gate which still has the original pavement from over 6000 years ago when the area was part of the Roman Empire. The East gate was the shopping district, housing only the wealthiest families with the road, leading to the amphitheater and the coliseum up the hill.

Crossing the modern day road, I climbed my first hill, a gorgeous blend between the ancient roman road(5000 yo), Turkish Empire castle walls (built in the 15th century) and the 150 year old post slavery houses.

Continuing up, I have to note my favorite feature about post-slavery houses from the beginning of the 20th century. You will notice on the pic below how one part of the house is constructed outward- a traditional Gossip room. What is that you ask?- after about 500 years of slavery, the Bulgarian aristocracy was fast developing. The socialites spent their days drinking tea and coffee in said rooms, keeping track on everything happening below them on the then Main Street of Plovdiv, who was spotted with whom, the works. A whole room designed exclusively for a vintage (or maybe original is the word), Gossip Girl!

We reached our destination- Nebet Tepe.

Believed to be a magical place, not just because of the view. This hill is said to be a sacred ground for ancient Thracian tribes, who enhabited Bulgaria 7000-8000 years ago. It’s believed the goddess Hekate preformed rituals here so the place is loaded with positive energy. Another theory states that’s the whole reason ancient Romans chose it as the main fortress in the area.

Tunnel entrance, dating back to Roman times, believed to be a part of an underground tunnel system, spreading throughout Europe

Just a few blocks up another hill, one can find the magnificent amphitheater, still performing over 5000 years after it was originally built. The entrance is only €5 per person and it’s an absolute must-see!

Our guide was a local ❤️

Another fabulous street down before the majestic Coliseum:

The original Coluseum remodel: just thinking that 5000 years ago, real gladiators walked these roads, sacrifices took place, people walked, preparing to face or possibly meet death itself…

the original Coliseum

Such a small part remains, yet it’s still so easy to feel the excitement as you walk the tunnel passage leading to the battle grounds. Even the bravest warriors must have paused for a second, hearing the crowd’s roars louder and louder.

Once you are up the steps and you look ahead, you get an instant “slap” back into present day times. Welcome to downtown Plovdiv, the shopping district!

There are still quite a few places I didn’t manage to cover in this visit but I’ll definitely be coming back here!

There are cats EVERYWHERE! Adding a little extra to the Roman vibe ❤️

Urban Spring

Happy Monday, Lovies!

I’m extatic to announce that Friday was the last “cold” Spring day! Summer is officially en route and before you know it, all the gorgeous green hues on the trees will turn yellow from the heat. I couldn’t let all that beauty go waste, so today’s outfit pics were shot in my favorite city garden here in Sofia!

I took advantage of the chilly weather to wear my favorite A-symmetrical light knit sweater from Forever21’s newly opened store here in Sofia, paired up with skinny low waist denim from H&M, Sisley thick heel ankle boots and a Nine West bag. Spiced up my look with my favorite name necklace in white gold, a choker from H&M and Swarovski earrings for a trendy finish.

I hope everyone is having a productive week and looking forward to some fresh Summer looks coming your way 💋

Bright colors and ancient ruins

Happy Monday, Lovies!

Yours truly had a four day weekend last week! I went on a little get away in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It’s the 4th oldest city in the world so we did a lot of exploring! I’ll be sharing my experience and restaurant recommendations this week, so be on the lookout for that. I did a lot of traveling this last month but I also had some free time to walk around, so I’ll be catching you up on that as well!

Old town Plovdiv is a truly magical place but Nebet Tepe Hill took my breath away! It’s the remains of an ancient castle (over 7000 years old!), and it reveals a gorgeous panorama of the modern part of the city. I chose to use it as a back drop for my outfit pics for you guys!

We had a lot of climbing to do and most of the roads in the old part of town are the authentic or reconstructed Roman stone roads. So I did something every fashion blogger does, whether they admit it or not- I wore my comfy orthopedic Geox flats for the long explorations, and only brought my heels for the outfit shots! Originally I was only going to post the pics shot for the blog, but Plovdiv’s scenery is so beautiful, I feel like I would be unfair to you guys if I don’t share some random favorites 🙂

The path up to Nebet Tepe Hill

The view from the top where the fortress once stood

You can see why this is my favorite spot in the city 🙂

Now some pics and details from my look:

I wore a kimono inspired dress, a flawless color blend from H&M, Banana republic leggings, Guess (Confidential cross body bag in rose pink), and Oakley shades. My heels are from Esprit and the adorable silver flats are Geox, as mentioned above. Details are the classic Lokai bracelet, Swarovski earrings and a custom made name necklace.

For more shots from the city, follow my Instagram and snapchat story (@SilviaMelange) and keep an eye on the blog! I wish all of you a fabulous week and let me know in the comments what you think of my pics 🙂 Are you into History, legends and ancient civilizations? What’s your favorite part of History? I’d love to have a discussion and see how many of you are travel junkies like moi?

Yagodina, Bulgaria *New Year’s trip*

When December came around, I realized I have no clue how we are going to be spending New Year’s Eve. My social calendar was getting crazier and crazier as 2015 progressed and by the end of it, I found myself craving some peace and quiet. Turns out my s/o shared my feelings so we got online and found a charming villa in a small village (population 431) up in the southern Bulgarian mountains.

Yagodina, Bulgaria is a gorgeous little village, hidden up in the Rodopi mountains, right by the border with Greece. it’s about 2h with a car from Sofia. The scenery on the way alone is absolutely worth taking the extreme one lane road for the last 20 minutes going up with your ears popping. There are plenty of beautiful towns that offer guest rooms and houses throughout the year but the history and the Mother Nature’s tourist attractions in the area made us choose this one.

The village of Yagodina dates back to 5th century and it burned down 3 times throughout it’s existence. It’s best known for the two impressive caves located near by: “The devil’s throat”- because it’s so deep (but we couldn’t visit because it was closed due to extremely icy floors) and the Yagodinska cave that was opened. It’s a very unique travel spot, even for a cave! Permanent temperature is 6º С, all year-round, 10 km long, consistent of 3 levels with the remains of a “village”on the first floor that was inhabited by humans around 4000 B.C. Scientists found quite a few clay and ceramic dishes, dating back from the same time frame. The cave is also the home of 11 different types of bats, 6 of which are endangered from extinction across Europe. I was lucky enough to capture the little guy below! Without a flash or sound of course!!

The Yagodinska cave has naturally forming pearls, unique rock formations and a naturally formed lake inside the cave! Below are some more pictures:

Our villa was gorgeous, 2 minutes from the town square where there is a huge celebration, with fireworks, music and traditional dances to celebrate the new year.

It’s like renting your own apartment and you can cook but I also recommend you let the host make you some traditional for the region dishes with homegrown organic ingredients. It’s peaceful and the perfect place to reconnect with nature and recharge from the “big city life”.

Black and White

There’s something very special about Sofia after midnight; You hear the music and the parties in the background but the streets are calm and relaxing. The lights create a romantic atmosphere you simply have to experience to fully understand. The Alexander Nevski Cathedral is one of my favorite building in my city, so I used its perspective as a background (in black and white) 🙂

Scrow down for the original pics and outfit details ❤️
