Homemade Basil Pesto with a twist

Happy Spring to those of you who only follow my foodie posts 🙂

You should know by now I’m all about healthy, clean eating all year round! But I’m sure you’ve also noticed I don’t pass up on goodies like holiday cookies, hot cocoa on a snowy day or a heavy French dish done right ;]

With Spring approaching and summer right around the corner, it’s time for a little detox. I’m a firm believer that once or twice a year, you should give your body some rest. Whether it’s low-carb, juicing or even the zone, take some time to “clean up” and focus on eating right, supplying your body with everything it needs 🙂

Today, I’ll share my favorite basil pesto recipe. It’s healthy and flavorful, goes well with whole grain pastas, salads or even used as a spread with some cherry tomatoes (the last one being a personal favorite)! It takes less than 5 minutes to prepare, so I don’t want any excuses!!!
You will need:
2 cups of fresh cleaned basil leaves

1 cup baby spinach (my twist, making it optional)

1/4 cup freshly shredded Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup virgin oil

3-4 minced garlic cloves

1/3 cups pine nuts or walnuts (optional)
Directions:

Blend all the greens, nuts and minced garlic cloves on medium, switching to high for 30 seconds to a minute (depending on your blender). Switch back to medium, adding the Parmesan. Finally, on low, slowly add the virgin oil.

A few tips:

Don’t cut any of the leaves, if you absolutely have to, just rip them up with your hands.

If your goal is to lose weight, skip the nuts and add only 1-2 tea spoons of virgin oil, just enough to blend the rest of the ingridients.
Have a healthy Spring, everyone!

A rainy Thursday

Hey Lovies! Unfortunately, winter is not quite over yet. Today I had a lot of errands to do but I decided to take a few quick snaps on my way out. Comfy and warm are a priority when it comes to rainy Thursdays 🙂

I’m wearing my favorite riding boots from Guess, Jessica Simpson wool coat (no one is happier for the return of the bell sleeves more than this gal!), basic Zara v-neck sweater, Gucci denim, Oscar shades and a spacious bag from Nine West.

I hope everyone is getting ready for Spring and making the best out of the gloomy weather!

In and out of the office

Happy Spring, Lovies!

As the temperatures increase, so do our post office hours commitments. I like to chose my outfits wisely, combining a stylish-office and a-drink-after-work vibe in one look. It’s not always easy to pull off, so there’s nothing wrong with stuffing your clutch and a piece of statement jewelry in your work bag for later. Here’s the drill: before heading out switch all of your essentials from you purse to the clutch (keys, wallet, charger, lip gloss) and leave your bag at the office. Just make sure next day’s office outfit matches the bag you left the previous night ;]  Another tip from yours truly: always keep a pair of classic heels and flat shoes at the office, updating them based on the season of course!

In last week’s shenanigans I’m wearing a cream Ralph Lauren top with skinny JBrand jeans, Guess ankle booties, Victoria’s Secret bow clutch and custom made heart shaped earrings.

I hope everyone is enjoying the arrival of Spring as much as I am! I also want to say, I’m sorry for being absent all week but I’d rather be gone for a bit and then spend time writing a good post, than to give you, guys, random content or scheduled posts every few hours. On that note, if you miss me, feel free to follow me on Instagram (@SilviaMelange) for daily updates, lifestyle posts and to follow my 100 Happy Days journey.

Women’s Day look

Yes, I know I’m a day late but Happy Women’s Day! How was everyone’s day yesterday? I had a fabulous day- I was off work, a lovely gesture from my boss and I  went out for drinks with the squad! There were also surprises from my s/o when I came home ❤ Don’t you just love being a woman?! I also took a few snaps of my girls-night-out look on my way out. I’m wearing a custom made Little black dress. I fell in love with the shimmery gold hints blending with the solid black base and purchased the fabric from a small shop in Venice last year, before I was even sure what I’m going to use it for 🙂 It fits perfectly with a Yves Saint Laurent clutch and Guess ankle booties for an effortless and chic week night out.

What did you do on our day? What did you wear? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Stay glamorous, my Lovies!

Grey fever

Happy Friday, Lovies!

I am obsessed with the all grey outfit trend that’s spreading like wild fire! I’m sure many of you notice the color more and more in Vogue and on the latest runways. “Grey is a boring color and it looks dull” – the most friquent argument against it I’m hearing. But as we see time and time again over the last few months, when styled right it’s fun and chic, perfect for an office look and casual street style. There are various ways to look fab in an all grey outfit! You can add a pop of color in shoes or accessories, pair it with statement jewelry, belt it and more. For today’s ootd, I chose to mix textures and add a splash of black here and there 🙂

I’m wearing Express fishnet sweater with a basic black tank underneath, skinny denim from H&M (super skinny, low waist) and Guess riding boots.

Do you, Lovies, adore grey as much as I do? What are your favorite ways to style it up? Let me know in the comments! I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
